Research & Documentation

Our research and documentation program seeks to deepen our understanding of the interconnections between culture and nature manifested through material built forms, land use, craft traditions as well as the intangible manifestations of oral traditions, festivals and rituals celebrating nature, folk songs and dances.

Projects here include a cultural mapping of the Korzok nomadic landscape, architectural research and documentation of the historic Leh chen Pal khar and old castle at Namgyal Tsemo, documentation of the traditional ecological knowledge of the Changpas of Korzok and a documentation of themdel among others. A documentary on the Changpa experience of climate change, the impact on traditional livelihoods told through a cultural lens of ritual performance is currently under production.
