Climate Change – Cultural Perspectives
The Third Pole region is the world’s third largest repository of frozen water, and its glaciers feed ten major river systems of the region. Melting glaciers, rising lake levels and changing precipitation patterns is being increasingly experienced in Changthang. This directly impacts the livelihoods and culture of the nomadic Changpas. A cultural view on climate change is currently being documented through oral testimonies, sacred performances and rituals to explore the ways in which culture responds to climate change.
