‘Jungwa’ in Ladakhi, represents the five elements of fire, earth, air, water and space coming together in harmony to manifest the natural world. Jungwa Foundation believes in this inter-connected worldview and promotes nature and culture conservation for the well-being of communities and the ecosystems they inhabit.

What We Do

Research & Documentation

The research and documentation program merges traditional knowledge and community narratives with field documentation  to create a multi dimensional understanding of cultural and natural heritage.

Conservation Actions

Conservation actions focus on training younger generations of cultural and natural knowledge holders and engaging with communities for the conservation of material culture and preservation of the environment.

Sustainable Livelihoods

The livelihoods program secures nature and culture based income generating opportunities for women and youth by linking community wellbeing directly with their cultural and natural roots.

Education & Health

The education program works on bringing indigenous traditions of story telling, ecological knowledge and skills to younger generations through a range of activities and outreach projects.

Our Approach

  • Listen
  • Learn
  • Co Create

We work in partnership with  communities combining the wealth of traditional knowledge with global conservation practices for the common goal of protection of landscapes and the cultures they sustain. This understanding underlines all our actions and strategies that are tailor-made to learn, listen, and co-create our programs. We consciously inculcate a philosophy that creates the necessary buffers, provides linkages, expertise and networks for indigenous communities to enable effective management of their cultural and natural heritage as part of a larger web of life.
