The wealth of the Changpas cultural and ecological indigenous knowledge resides with community elders. As young children move to schools outside Korzok to pursue their education, traditional systems of knowledge transfer become vulnerable to disruption. The education branch of our overall program will work specifically on filling in inter generational gaps on knowledge transfer and encouraging youth to explore their cultural and natural heritage.
Our first publication titled “Tales from the Rebo – Changpa Stories of the Natural World” is a book for children based on folk tales from Changthang. A second ongoing project “Changpa Chronicles” works with youth from Korzok Tegazung to document daily life on an annual migration cycle of the Korzok Changpas. This develops from a small online photographic exhibition created on the occasion of World Environment Day 2019 presenting images and insights of Changpa children on nomadic life.
