Spring Water Refill, Korzok

Around the world, 1 million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute and 300 million tonnes of plastic waste is generated every year, today. That’s nearly equivalent to the weight of the entire human population. 60% of plastic produced since the early 1950’s lands up in landfills or the natural environment.

The fragile ecosystem of Tso Moriri is seeing an increased pollution from the disposal of plastic waste in the vicinity of the lake. As tourism flourishes, the waste generated from plastic also sees a sharp increase. To combat this, a partnership has been initiated with the Ama Tsogspa (women group) in Korzok to promote the sale of filtered fresh spring water through a water refill program. Spring water was tested using a  NABL certified kit. Each sale of a litre of water reduces the waste generated from a single use plastic bottle.
